Since Friday evening, 01.08.2025, Sync & Share has been fully available, as has Cisco VPN. The remaining services will be restarted today throughout the day.

Release of the monthly Windows Updates
On Freitag, 15.8.2025, the monthly Windows Updates will be released. Please install them on your DESY Windows devices as soon as possible to ensure that they are up-to-date and secure.

On Thursday, 26/06/2025, maintenance work will be carried out on the central email service (mail.desy.de) from 8:00 to 21:00.

During this period, there will be two shorter interruptions of the email service in the morning, each lasting about 20 minutes. In the afternoon, starting at 16:00, the email service will also be unavailable for a period of one to four hours, and email traffic will be halted.

Incoming emails will be temporarily stored and delivered to the email accounts after the maintenance work is completed.

The reason for the maintenance is the update of the email service (Zimbra) from major version 9 to 10.

This short-term maintenance is necessary to ensure operational safety.

Solved: Trouble of the Login Service Keycloak (Singel-Sign-On)
The problem is solved since Tuesday, 27.05.2025.

Since Tuesday, 01.04.2025, cross-service login via the central authentication service Keycloak does not work as usual.

Normally, logging in once is enough to access multiple services. At the moment, however, this is not possible:
For example, if you log in at https://mail.desy.de or https://xwiki.desy.de, you are not automatically logged in to other services that also use Keycloak.
Currently you need to log in again for each of these other services.

The following web services are affected:

- Indico (https://indico.desy.de)
- DESY Sync & Share (https://syncandshare.desy.de)
- DESY Mail (https://mail.desy.de)
- XWiki (https://xwiki.desy.de)
- Jupyterhub (max-hub and naf-jhub)

We are working on a solution to this problem.

Terminalserver: Message - unexpected certificate
The web client (https://rdsweb.desy.de/rdweb/webclient) for the terminal server has received a new certificate.

As a side effect some users may receive an error message about an unexpected certificate when connecting to a specific terminal server.

In this case the users should delete their browser cookies.

Using the VPN Service "eduVPN" at DESY
Starting immediately, VPN connections from outside to the internal data network can be established using the VPN service "eduVPN" also from non-DESY devices. eduVPN allows access to internal websites as well as the establishment of Remote Desktop connections (RDP) to Windows devices and SSH connections to Linux devices within the internal data network.

Please note that for using eduVPN, it may be necessary to first enable the IP address of your device via https://it-access.desy.de. This process is fully automated and takes only a few minutes after a single click. You can find more information in the eduVPN documentation:

For connecting to DESY devices, Cisco VPN should still be used, as it is required for, among other things, operating system updates and connecting to Windows network drives (H/N/S).

Exchange of the printer service on the Windows terminal server winsaphr
On Monday, 16.06.2025, the previous printer service v02spool of the Windows terminal server winsaphr[1] will be switched off.

If you only print from winsaphr using the SAP GUI or not at all, you can ignore this information.

If you print from winsaphr from other applications, please carry out a one-time reinstallation of the printer (hr[printer name]) previously used on winsaphr. To do this, please use the new printer service v02spool11.

Shutdown of the video conferencing service Big Blue Button (conf.desy.de)
As already announced in the CUC, the Big Blue Button video conferencing software (https://conf.desy.de) will be shut down at the beginning of May 2025.
Accordingly, it will no longer be possible to use the call function in the DESY Chat (chat.desy.de).

VPN - Change of the behaviour of the VPN Software Cisco AnyConnect
Since the last update of the Cisco Secure Client for vpn.desy.de <http://vpn.desy.de/> on 7.3.2025, the behaviour of the software has changed.

It can happen that the previously pre-filled “vpn.desy.de <http://vpn.desy.de/>” disappears in the login window of the program. Previously, the Cisco VPN software “remembered” the settings. Since the update to more recent versions, vpn.desy.de <http://vpn.desy.de/> sometimes has to be entered again.
